FLORENCE PRICE COMMUNITY PROJECT
Our Mission
Our community is a multi cultural and ethnically diverse hub. Laying in this immense pool of talent yet to be discovered and developed, are the future artists that will represent the best values of our humble working class community.
We are confident that a serious educational program focused on Classical Music study and Music appreciation, will spark in the students the interest in becoming performing artists.
In a few words, we envision to discover the most talented youths and shape them through a rigorous academic curriculum, into the seeds of world class artists that will bring pride to our community. We
aspire to no less than that.

Who was Florence B. Price ?

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Price was educated at the New England Conservatory of Music, and was active in Chicago from 1927 until her death in 1953. Price is noted as the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a composition played by a major orchestra. Price composed over 300 works: four symphonies, four concertos, as well as choral works, art songs, chamber music and music for solo instruments.
She gave her first piano performance at the age of four and had her first composition published at the age of 11
Concordiam Hominum
" Concordiam Hominum" which means " bringing harmony to humanity " is the official motto of our music program and it summarizes everything we stand for as musicians and music educators. We envision to spark in our students the interest in the most elevated expressions of the performing arts through the study of music and contributing to their development as human beings.
